The Gaucho, is the South America Cowboy. And although they are not as predominate as they once were throughout the ‘Pampas’ of Argentina, their most prized possession was, and still remains today, is his knife! The Gauchos were known for never carrying a gun, only his ‘Cuchillo’ knife. It was his only tool and used for everything; from cleaning his horses hooves, cutting his steak, even settling a disagreement. Their knives were fondly referred to as 'The Peacemaker' !

Our one of a kind Artisan hand crafted Cuchillo knife, meaning Gaucho in Spanish, is crafted with a 14cm, full tang, hand forged, 440 stainless steel blade with a convex edge and spear point tip. It’s spine measures approximately 4mm. A heavy, wide handle designed for a large mans hand is crafted with the hard wood called Guyana wood, animal bone and accented with brass spacers. The total length is 9". Beautifully finished with hand cut and hand sown rawhide leather. Crafted by the skilled hands of the Argentine knife makers, who to this day still use ‘the old world techniques' and hand forging methods which have been practiced by many generations. (actually since the Spanish Conquerors introduced these handsome pieces in the mid 1500's to the Argentins. Each knife if balanced to perfection, therefor this knife can be used by either a right or left handle user. The exotic hardwood used, Gayacona wood is know for its moisture barrier properties and is a favorite crafting wood by the knife makers! - Note: We have a comparison photo to see our similar model, CUCA-109/1934.

Note: Bone used for knife handles is taken from naturally deceased animals. Bone handles are usually given a surface texture for better grip and added beauty

Each bone handle has its own pattern and distinguished look. Some bone is dyed in a variety of colors or they may be left in their natural state. Bone is an excellent material for knife handles, it is durable with its rugged and attractive uniqueness. The majority of bone used for knife making in Argentina is typically from the Southern mountainous region. For example, antlered reindeer.
